Explorer Scouts are the fourth section in Scouting’s 6-25 programme and caters for the 14-18 year old age group. Explorers follow on from Scouts (10 ½ - 14) before leading on to Network (18-25). Scouting is fully co-educational in all sections.    Explorer life and the programme is considerably more relaxed than previous sections with more emphasis put on the young people leading the section and devising the programme. Consequently meetings may not be weekly as with other sections and have to fit around the other aspects of young people’s lives – schoolwork, exams, part-time jobs, friends and socialising – to name but a few. However, we do have to remember we are part of the Scout Association – a movement with some 28 million members in all but 6 countries across the world. We therefore wear a uniform, make a Promise and agree to abide by the Scout Law. Scouts can move up to Explorers between 13 ½ and 15, often in the company of their peers. New members can join anytime after age 13 ½. In Cupar, the uniform requirements are the Explorer Scout shirt/blouse, black watch neckerchief and Scout belt. On formal occasions we will ask you to wear smart trousers/skirt and smart shoes. If we travel abroad as scouts or to an international event within the UK, Scottish Scout uniform dictates the wearing of a kilt.

After about 4 weeks new members are formally invested into the Scout Association. At this time they make a Promise.
